As a lot of people will already know Kat Von D has FINALLY released her beauty products in the UK! I’ve not tried any of her beauty range before (although my wish list is the length of my arm!). So I thought as I had ran out of loose powder and was on Debenhams already to order a new one – I would try the Kat Von D setting powder & while I was browsing I just couldn’t help but sneak a primer into my basket too!
I’m not a makeup artist – I’m pretty average when it comes to make up skills so this is just my opinion and not that of a super sassy qualified MUA!
First product is the Kat Von D look-it featherweight primer base (30ml) £24.00 – described as a hydrating water-based, fast-absorbing formula. It is designed to reduce the look of pores and help foundation stay put.
Second product is the Kat Von D lock-it setting powder (19g) £20.00 – described as a translucent loose powder. Described as a silky non-drying powder that sets your make up to a velvety- matte finish. It has no colour so is suitable for all skin tones.
Her whole collection is cruelty free which is amazing, and the two items I have purchased are vegan for those that this is important for them to know.
I was so so excited for my delivery to come and had really high expectations! The packaging on both products are incredible, I’m obsessed! It’s vampy and black & white, feels really luxurious and is very true to brand for Kat Von D. I love the little “pressed wax stamp” detail and I cannot believe how much product you get for the money you pay!
On applying the primer my first thoughts were that it felt a bit like Urban decay’s Brightening & Tightening primer and nothing at all like Benefit’s Porefessional primer, it’s not oily it melted into the skin and left no residue. The smell is lovely, it’s not strong and doesn’t smell perfumed it just has a slight baby powder sort of smell to it. I use around three pumps for my whole face and my foundation went over it like normal.
The Powder is HUGE you get so much for your money with this product! Its scent free and a little went a long way, it didn’t feel chalky or drying and left no colour. It set my foundation and I used setting spray like normal and the powder didn’t effect this. So applying the primer and setting powder – I had no problems with.
Ok so I work in a air conditioned office, and with the change in seasons I was praying this combination would stop my skin from getting oily. It didn’t work as well as I had hoped – I found I needed to re apply the powder half way through the day, and my foundation kind of sat on top of my skin, I think the primer was the reason for this rather than the powder.
I’ve not experienced any break outs from the products and I am finding the primer great to wear with no foundation – just as a protection for my skin during the cold weather.
Out of the two products my favourite is the setting powder, the value for money is great and the packaging and product itself works wonders. I would recommend both products and I’m really excited to try more from Kat Von D!
