I don’t know about anyone else but when Aunt Ruby comes to pay me a monthly visit – I. AM. SCREWED!
I stop functioning like a normal human and turn into an emotional mess with a very short fuse and excruciating pain to contend with.
Over the years I’ve been on various medications to help with the pain, and it’s still something I suffer with every single month!
So as an expert in dealing with menstrual pain id like to share with you what helps me in my hours of need!
First things first – when them niggles start in your tummy and the back cramps kick in – get them tablets down you asap! These are forever in my handbag and I swear by them to take the edge off, it’s not a miracle medicine that takes ALL the pain away but it helps! You need to take anti-inflammatory tablets to help you most.
Three words – Boiling hot baths! This is the most important thing that helps me, it has to be with no bubbles – they just annoy me (like I said very short fuse!) I’ll pop my favourite LUSH bath bomb in and have PLL on the laptop while I soak away my pain! When I’m out of the bath I usually crawl into bed – Rhys will have already switched my heated blanket on full power and a hot water bottle is usually waiting for me in bed!
Ice & Comfort food;
So Im cosy in my bed now, the next stage of survival is water with ice (after all – you’ll probably need re-hydrating after boiling yourself in a bath then rolling around on a heated bed!) and some sugar; chocolate, cake or sweets usually hit the spot.
The Pink Parcel Subscription is a sweet little box of goodies that gets delivered each month around that time of the month, you are able to select tampons, liners or a mix of both – you’re able to select your preferred brand too! Along with your chosen form of armour they also pack the box with cute bits that will cheer you up – it changes each month but usually there’s some form of edible treat, something to drink and different beauty products! It cheers me up a good’un each month and I’ve discovered some great brands from using it. The only down side for me is that not all the brands are cruelty free, in these cases I share the love and give them to family.
First hand experience with this company – it’s great I cant recommend signing up enough – the first box will cost you £6.99 then after that it’s £10.50 including postage – and you can cancel at any time. The box is designed to fit through most letter boxes and it is packaged discreetly so if your not home it should be ok to get delivered without an embarrassment.
To finish off my bedridden day of pain I like to watch one of my favourite films, Harry Potter tends to make an appearance! I like to watch something I’ve watched before usually so I don’t have to concentrate too much – and oubt I’ll drop off and miss parts.
If I’m feeling as though I can make it to my feet and walk like an actual human being – I like to take coco my dog out for a walk, somewhere quiet and pretty, it’s nice to clear my head, plus they say gentle exercise is good for the pains.
If I’m in work I tend to take a hot water bottle in with me and dose up on Feminax – until I can get home and relax in that blissful bath of mine!
This may not be an interesting read for you girls that just glide through their periods – but for all the ladies that suffer every month – I hope this helps and I feel your pain.
