With Mental Health Awareness Week coming to an end, and after a very positive weekend I think its a good time to update the people that care!
Unlike last year where I posted FAQ’s and my partner Rhys uploaded a blog take over – this year Ive been offline a lot more. Since learning that I was a chosen one for the Mental Health UK Trek of The Great Wall of China its eaten up all of my time – be it fundraising, hustling for raffle donations or training – China is at the forefront of my mind always!!
I gave myself some personal goals to complete over the week of mental health awareness, the first being to raise awareness and funds for mental health UK via a cake sale in work. For me and my anxious mind this was ALOT. I had to ask for cake donations, send communications out to the offices in our building, and then the hardest part – actually go around the many offices – some full with strangers, others with my peers and friends and SELL – I popped a propranolol and got stuck in – after a stressful start I managed to get around 5 offices and made an incredible £243.65 – all profit that will go straight to Mental Health UK and will contribute to my £4000 target that I’m raising before leaving for China in September.
My next goal was to take on a local mountain – Sugarloaf was what we chose in the end, and I’m pleased to report back – with my very own t shirt tan that we done it! Im sure we went the wrong way and we defiantly got a little lost on the way back to the car – but the weather was amazing and the views from the top of Sugarloaf were amazing and made all the sweating worth it!
I wanted to talk about the raffle and party I have planned with all money going to Mental Health UK via my JustGiving page for a while I have been reaching out to different companies to donate raffle prizes for the draw I’m doing at my party in August, Ive have had some amazing companies offer very generous prizes including www.experiencedays.co.uk they have an incredibly easy website to use where you can find a wide variety of amazing experiences and they are very affordable with them starting at as little as £6! I have some of the prizes up for grabs listed on my instagram here
As well as the raffle taking place at the party we have a super sassy DJ that will be making the night memorable, an amazing Hog roast buffet courtesy of Bella’s Catering and Louis Humphrey Photography capturing the night so I can remember it forever! I have limited tickets due to the venue size so any friends and family that are yet to buy tickets please don’t wait as I would hate to not have you there!
I have a training weekend in June, this is when I will be meeting all my fellow China Trekkers for the first time and we will be spending the weekend trekking around the Peak District, I’ll be honest – I am shitting my pants! Im praying I won’t fall over (this happens more often than you would think – even with ankle support?!) and that I make new friends – god its like starting college all over again! We have received our itinerary for China and I 100% underestimated the challenge – who knew there were hills and steps along the wall!?
But anyway – I just wanted to check in and give a brief China update and explain why Approach.with.Coffee had been neglected lately. Follow my instagram for regular China training updates too – @jadechyrelle and for anyone that wants to sponsor me then please head over to my JustGiving page
I finally want to thank every single person thats supported me with my training and my fundraising.
Until the next update
